191 - Korean Restaurants in San Francisco

I found myself like Korean food after moved to the US. I know it's odd to like Korean food in America. Maybe is because the modification makes it easier to be accepted. Even so, it still be a big challenge for a lot of western people here especially Kimchi. That makes me think that to have a boyfriend who likes Kimchi will be a bonus.

There are lots of good Korean restaurant in south bay but doesn't seem a lot here in San Francisco. Most of them are at Richmond District. It's pretty far away from the town center. This Korean wooden charcoal B.B.Q has a pretty good review and interesting too. I took the chance to go there with my Taiwan co-work who is a beg fan of Korean BBQ and Soju. 。

Korean restaurant often offer lots of food but never get more than a two $ sign on Yelp. It has never get too fancy or expensive either. There are expensive Thai and Vietnamese which can go up to three or four $ sign. Something I don't really understand. As usual, nothing fancy in the restaurant. But the bad air and yellow+dark red wall do decrease my appetite a little bit. 。

The biggest characteristic of Korean food is these small cute little dishes comes before the meal. It names Banchan. Usually they served along with rice but people take them more like appetizer here. The basic table setting for these small dish meal called "bansang". It can be 3,5,7,9,12 cheop depending on how many banchan on table. They are free in most of restaurants. I really enjoy a meal start with these little treats. 。

A lots of these small dishes are Kimchi. The definition of Kimchi is fermented vegetables seasoned with chili papers and salt. There was a saying that south Korean do not consider a meal complete without Kimchi. I like Kabak kimchi and Ggakdugi the most.

Other small dishes will be like Kongnamul (Cold boiled bean sprouts with seame oil), Miyeok(seaweed with sweet vinegar and salt, Kimchi bokkeum (Stir-fried kimchi), fish cake, and Japchae (cold clear noodle).

。 I like the concept of using chorc0al instead of gas but to sitting in front of exposed high temperature burring chorc0al makes me feeling hot, nervous and want to finish the meal as soon as possible. It's not definitlly not a slow cooking, talking drinking type of place here.

Pork belly was the one I like to try the most. It's fresh without covering up by too much of sauce . We had only one order. It come with a big pile of pork belly.... I ate few pieces of them. I don't really like it. It smell like from pig ... maybe need more sauce。

Chicken and beef rib are both good. I never like grill chicken but it taste pretty good here. Korean beef rib is must have. I have never find any disappointed with them. It's ok here over all. It's a little bit expensive. I think "Manna restaurant" in Fremont is better.

The second restaurant name "zazang" It does not have a super high review, but I was attracted by the black noodle dish. I have never seen something like that before. Well, I like this restaurant, it can be like daily meal.

"It's not pretty" I want to say, when "Za Zang Myun" (black bean noodle) came on my table. I won't order it on my first date with someone, same as oxtail. What is that?? excially, It really looks like a pile od nesty thing. 。

One things I noticed that lots Korean food come with scissor for different purpose. What I should do here with this scissor? I asked. 'To cut the noddles" ... O..K...but why didn't they been cut before come to my table? Does the fresh cut right before went into the mouth makes taste better ? I couldn't help wonder...

surprisingly, It tasted really good much better than how it looks. The sauce is not heavy just to give enough of flavor to balance out the plan noodle. More cucumber might give more freshness. Some ground meat might be Ok to have too but I am just Ok to like the way it is.

Order another dish of dip fried shrimp base on the suggestion from Yelp. It was good, really big size of Shrimp. The sauce ... sour and sweet .. no really that great.

I think they should remove this appetizer, I don't see anyone etting them. I think they should stop providing them. Why not Kimchi? What kind of Korean restaurant don't have Kimchi? Even Japanese Raman place has free Kimchi. 。

190-Bonita Lighthouse

Although has been in the US almost 4 years, I still feel myself as a tourist. Something new has too happen every week, gotta go some where new every weekend. I don't might to be this way, because It's hard for me to be someone who stop exploring and think nothing special around. It's even harder for me to be in a life style which is 100% settle.

I like lighthouse, very much. I often look for them wherever I go. I have seen bunch of them on the east cost, Boston area. I still remember how pretty they are. Few weeks ago. I searched lighthouse list at California. I found Point Bonita Lighthouse. What a beautiful thing! I have to go there real quick was the first thing came onto my mind.
。 Point Bonita Lighthouse located at Point Bonita at San Francisco Bay entrance near Sausalito. It's about 25 minutes from San Francisco city. It's very easy to get to. There is about 10 minutes walk on the trial before reach the lighthouse. The trial is very easy and will not be a problem for senior or kids. 。

The bridge is not far away after this small tunnel. There is a sign to tell you if the bridge to the lighthouse is open or not. But ..... don't trust it completely. Anyway you have come a long way here, you might as well see it from the distance instead of going back when it's closed. 。

It's a small tunnel. Tall people might need bend down a little bit to get through. 。

。 Beautiful landscape around the area. It looks good even when sun is not shinning. 。

Unlike lighthouses at east cost, the lighthouse here is pretty short. The Original lighthouse was 93m tall but often cloaked by dense high fog. In 1877, the lighthouse was moved to the current location built as tall 38m. 。

Point Bonita was the last manned lighthouse on the California coast. Maybe there are difficulties to make it completely automatic. But I don't really want to be the lighthouse man stay there and take care of that lighthouse everyday, that's for sure. 。

Up until 1940, the lighthouse can be reached without a bridge, but erosion caused to lighthouse trail crumble into the sea. In 1954, a suspension bridge was built and it was a style of mirror design of Golden Gate bridge but in white. 。

。 It is accessible to the public during limited hours(12:30 PM–3:30 PM) on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Max 2 people on the bridge at once. For the safety concern, the bridge has been closed to public since January, 2010 when bridge gets 56 years old. 。

The new bridge will be rebuild on August 2011 and re-open at March 2012. 。 Because most of material need to shop by helicopter, the cost could up to $1.3 million. The bridge will be made from tropical hardwood and steel suspension cables.

Specially like how the bridge lying on the top of these weird rocks. This might not be the coolest light house in the world, but should be easiest stay in top 5 of my lighthouse list. 。

This will be the last summer for this old bridge. They will remove whole bridge and build a new one by the new material. Which means it might look new and different from the one we have  now. I am glade I have came to see the end life of this 56 years old bridge because it might never be the same again. 。

After the lighthouse, I decided to go for a cost trial hike. The trail should be pretty safe to go by myself. It's open, you can see where the trial goes from the top of the hill. The trials are simple and might have less chance to get lost. 。

Apart from the weather, the hiking has been nice. I got a little lost somewhere but over all was pretty good. I feel good after 6 or 7 miles hike. It's about right distance for a half day hike. 。

On the top of hill, a great view was taken by Panoramic function.

Map around the area. 。

There are not many people in the coffee shop now.  I am able to sit anywhere I want, that's the bonus of waking up early. It usually get really busy on the weekend, sometimes you can't even get a seat from the 3 coffee shops on Divisadeo St. I found my favorite table which close to the window with semi-sunlight, not too bright, not too dark. Order a cup coffee to cure my headache. 。

I have got the ticket about a week ago. I got a feeling that the ticket will be sold out by so many albums Death Angle has. As expected, so many people were outside the door looking for thicket. I might not good at choose what is good band to watch but I found the way to know when need to get the ticket in advance.

The first band on the stage was Bonded By Blood. The band formed in 2005 by vocalist Jose Barrales, who with the help of friends completed the band's lineup with guitarist Alex Lee, drummer Carlos Regalado, and bassist Ruben Dominguez. It's an American thrash metal band. Thrash metal is a type of heavy metal that is characterized usually by its fast tempo and aggression. It become my favorite band from last tonight. Most of people go to the concert late, just to see the band they wanted to see, usually will be the last one. I always go there on time and see all of them in case the last one wasn't good enough to pay off the ticket. 。 Bonded By Blood at My Space

Alex Lee, the most beautiful guitarist I have ever seen. Beautiful fingers swift through the strings, Fine hair swing into the air from time to time. What a beautiful hair whip with the right speed and beauty motion. It's not too crazy and make me think the head might fall off any time. He was so sexy on the stage as well as was selling T-shirt and he makes me think about Jacob in Twilight. If I want to have a heavy metal band, Alex Lee will be the guitarist and the vocal would be James-Paul Luna  from Holy Grail... drummer, I do like Mikkey Dee, but I need someone cuter. Bonded By Blood @ Slim's 2011-1

The second band was Lazarus A.D. It's a heavy metal band from Wisconsin, originally formed as "Lazarus" in 2005. The "A.D." was added to avoid potential legal issues. 。

I don't remember a lot from this band but I know I don't have too much of negative thought from them. I do enjoy the speed, the fast Riff (if I didn't get it wrong). Anyway you will get what I am talking about by listening to their music. I do like the speed and the vocal of the song "Black Rivers flow" from them. Lazarus A.D. at My Space

This type of guitar called Fish shape or V shape. The advantage is that it can sit on the lap during the performing. 。 Lazarus A.D. @ Slim's 2011-1

I move to the center area where those crazy people were before Death Angle went on the stage. I really curious what they are doing and wish to take a close look. I measured, the size of crazy circle and decide to stand next to the closest post next to the crazy circle. I assume that they will have to knock down the post before hit me and make sure I will be safe.

They finally came out after more then 10 minutes yelling screaming and shouting. I see how people under stage match people on the stage. Yes, these are the right group of people for the band and I know they are going to have lots of fun tonight. but me ... maybe not 。

Didn't take long, the first song already in the right tempo to fire up the crazy circle activity. You may see a little bit from my video. It's even more terrify to see it in live and so close. They walk in strange way (tilted the body about 10 degree and more degree of tilted on the head) then violently crash into the other people. Some of them are topless. Their expression on their face look like as if they have lost their soul or the devil went inside their body. They seems having fun though, I didn't want to worry too much. I take it as a way they communicate to each other to show their passion to the music. There was a really fat short woman, maybe around 40. she was like a big meat ball bounce between those tough guys, I have no idea what she was doing over there. but the big amount of fat she has might enough to protect her from getting injured.

Yes, he was holding s big bottle of of Bombay Sapphire Gin, crazy ... but if he really need that to provide a good performing I don't really mind. I notice most of rockers drink on stage but not strong alcohol like gin or vodka.
。 I didn't stay till the end of the concert. The strange smell of sweat, alcohol and something else. It almost smell like vomit. I feel enough for the night. I walked out. It feels good the cold wind blow on to my face. As usual, strange guys toward me and want to talk to me. I never care what they have to say without looking at them I walk away. I don't think any of you need to worry too much about what I am doing. It's just a 37 year old woman experimenting life. 。

188 - High on fire and Cold Grave @ Slim's 2011

I don't usually worry about what kind of song is good to like and never concern too much weather I have good taste of music or not. There are not a lot out there I would like and sometime even been picky on things. There would be no hesitation for me to like them if I find something.

Attending concert helps me to get to know bands and musics. Most of time I found the music I like there. But the difficulty would be to find the song name. Shazam often able to tell me songs name from radio or records but never from concerts. Not only because some of the songs are not from published album but also the song structure can be a little bit different from the records. It's really frustrated that spent whole night listen through albums to albums but still couldn't find the song name. 。

I took taxi to Slim's tonight because I missed the 7 pm bus and I will need to wait for another 38 minutes to be on the next one. The bus schedule can be very difficult on Sunday. I arrive early. I saw there were a very long line in front of DNA lounge, the line even extended to the door of Slim's. I checked, the band called "Parkway Drive" from Australia will preform there tonight. I have never heard any "Metalcore" style of music. I think. Maybe I could give a try one day. I like to try DNA lounge too, although I don't like the name very much.

The first band wasn't anything special. It didn't get me warm up. Also I didn't have any photos and videos from them too. The second band on to the stage is "Cold Grave". Yes, I am standing in from of the singer again but I know no one will be jealous this time. Anyway, I didn't stay there long, just enough time to get some pictures. After the second song, crazy guys start running around and bumping each other in front of the stage. And I know it's time to go somewhere safe. 。
。 Cold Grave is a Death/Black Metal band from Oakland. Formed in 2008。 Death metal is an extreme kind of heavy metal. It typically employs heavy distorted guitars, tremolo picking(check sound sample in Wik), deep growling vocals, Blast beat drumming (check sound sample in Wik), and complex song structures with multiple tempo changes.

Black metal is an extreme type of heavy metal music. It often uses fast tempos, shrieked vocals, highly distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, blasted beat drumming, raw recording, and unconventional song structure。

。 Why he want "鼠" tattoo which means rat on his body? I don't know, guess I am not bright enough to understand that. Maybe because there are lots of people having tattoo here, I am getting used to it. Appreciation instead of  Judgment is my attitude now. 。

I am here for the last band named "High On Fire". I have 2 albums from them. High On Fire is a Stoner Metal band from Oakland. It was founded in 1998 by Sleep guitarist Matt Pike. The band's first full-length album is "The Art of self Defense" in 2000. I really like the album name.

Stoner Rock (Stoner Metal) is one kind of heavy metal. It's a combination of psychedelic Rock, Blur Rock, Traditional heavy metal and doom metal. 。
Stoner Rock is typically slow to mid tempo and features low-tuned guitars, a bass-heavy sound and melodic vocals. The genre emerged during 1990s and was pioneered by CA bands "Fu Manchu", "Kyuss", "Monster Magnet" and "Sleep"。
。 It's really a tough combination to me, topless, big fat stomach, fully covered tattoo body and two in a row tonight. I can't really bring up my acceptance. Especially when I look at those side view photos I have...I really can't, it's not pretty. I would rather close my eyes to keep the fantasy I have for the songs. I am sorry to say this. 。

I enjoy very much to be in front of the bass Jeff Matz (1977). I like the way he move, it shows the true feelings that he has for the songs. He knows what he is doing and he wasn't acting. 。 Jeff joined High on Fire since 2006.
